THE SEEKERS REUNITE TO JOIN ANDRE RIEU FOR HIS AUSTRALIAN TOUR
UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE - 21 JUNE 2010 Due to overwhelming demand, André Rieu is pleased to announce second shows in each capital city for his upcoming Australian tour.
Fans of André Rieu will also be very excited to learn that Australia's own fab four, The Seekers, will be reforming to join André on stage for the full tour. They will be performing many of their biggest hits and most loved songs with the backing of the Johann Strauss Orchestra.
"Athol, Keith, Bruce and I were so surprised, delighted and honoured to be invited by André Rieu to join his tour that we have all decided to put our individual projects on hold for this extravaganza," says The Seekers lead singer Judith Durham. "We know how much André and the Johann Strauss Orchestra have been uplifting audiences by presenting classical music in spectacular settings on a global scale, and for Seekers fans this will be the very first time the group has ever toured with an orchestra. We are greatly looking forward to this emotional experience." "The Seekers music has been loved by Australians for decades and I am thrilled they have agreed to perform again as my special guests on tour. I know their part in my concerts will be very special," says André Rieu.
ORIGINAL MEDIA RELEASE André Rieu returned to the Australian stage last week (October 2009) with a jubilant '30th Anniversary Tour' concert at ACER Arena in Sydney. Celebrating 30 years of performing, Rieu, his soloists and The Johann Strauss Orchestra wowed with a collection of songs including waltz by Frans Lehár, the Spanish 'España Cani' and a traditional Dutch 'Klompendans' (clog dance).
They were also joined by some very special guests, including a stirring spoken and sung rendition of 'We Are Australian' by radio personality Alan Jones, resulting in a standing ovation from the 15,000 audience members. The concert ended with a surprise visit from Australia's First Lady, Dame Edna Everage. To much laughter and applause Dame Edna announced, that she was engaged to be married to Rieu, stating after that "many of the female members of the audience now want to scratch my eyes out".
The biggest surprise for Rieu fans came when the concert was finished and the announcement of a 2010 Sydney concert was made and Andre's many Newcastle and Brisbane fans can expect more exciting news this week! André Rieu and The Johann Strauss Orchestra will return to Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane for more shows in 2010...
